Flip For The Cure

When our daughter, Piper, was in kindergarten, she had her first seizure. In hindsight, it was a mild event, but at the time it was unbelievably frightening. This is when we found out that she had epilepsy. Thankfully, we were able to be connected with a great neurologist that helped educate us on what was happening and put Piper on a treatment plan to help control her epilepsy. In an effort to better understand the diagnosis, we began researching online and one of the first resources we came across was The Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan. Not only is there a wealth of knowledge on their website, but there are also additional resources offered to support people affected by epilepsy and their families. There have been good times and bad throughout the years of Piper’s illness, but our family has been blessed to be able to control her seizures, but not all families are as lucky. The Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan is there to help provide support with so many facets of the illness from emotional support to medical resources, to emergency medication assistance funds. The Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan has been a wonderful resource for our family and countless others.

We were so grateful for the support of the Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan and wanted to help support them and the work they do. We began small with annual lemonade stands as part of the Lemonade for Livy national Epilepsy Foundation events, but we wanted to find more ways to support our local chapter and that is how Flip for a Cure was born. A few years earlier, Jason had rediscovered his childhood love of pinball and our family began playing in local tournaments for fun. Through these events we had grown close to the pinball community and the comradery is amazing, so this naturally became the avenue we took for our fundraising efforts. With the help of the pinball community and our family and friends, we held our first Flip for a Cure pinball tournament in 2021. It was so heartwarming to see the support for a charity that is near and dear to our hearts. The 2024 Flip for a Cure event was an even bigger success than the first and we are hoping that 2025 will be the best yet! These events are a labor of love and we are so grateful for everyone who helps support these events and we are hopeful to continue this event for as long as we can.
